چکیده

Cortical blindness as a sequelae of trauma has been reported in the literature but its pathophysiology remains unknown. We report a case of transient post-traumatic cortical blindness as a result of bilateral occipital lobe infarcts in a multiply injured patient after a 6-storey fall from height. We discuss the possible aetiologies for our patient’s condition and reviewed the relevant literature. An awareness of this condition and their causes is important and should be followed with the appropriate imaging and management.

Anton's syndrome due to cerebrovascular disease: a case report

INTRODUCTION Anton's syndrome describes the condition in which patients deny their blindness despite objective evidence of visual loss, and moreover confabulate to support their stance. It is a rare extension of cortical blindness in which, in addition to the injury to the occipital cortex, other cortical centres are also affected, with patients typically behaving as if they were sighted. CAS...

Bilateral Cortical Blindness due to Bilateral Occipital Infarcts without Anosognosia

Cerebral blindness is defined as bilateral loss of vision secondary to disruption in the visual pathways posterior to the lateral geniculate nuclei [1]. Cortical blindness, a particular type of cerebral blindness, is defined as the total loss of vision in the presence of normal pupillary reflexes and in the absence of ophthalmological disease [2], resulting from bilateral lesions of the striate...

Reversible Cortical Blindness as a Prominent Manifestation of Cerebral Embolism due to Infective Endocarditis

Introduction. Infective endocarditis in the left heart may be complicated by stroke, due to embolisation from infectious valvular vegetations. Infarction of both occipital lobes, which are supplied by the posterior cerebral arteries, is infrequent, and is the cause of cortical blindness from lesion of the visual cortex. Cortical blindness is characterized by intact pupillary reflexes, a normal ...

Recurrent Bilateral Occipital Infarct with Cortical Blindness and Anton Syndrome

Bilateral cortical blindness and Anton syndrome, are most commonly caused by ischaemic stroke. In this condition, patients have loss of vision but deny their blindness despite objective evidence of visual loss. We report a case of a patient with multiple cardiovascular risk factors who developed recurrent bilateral occipital lobe infarct with Anton syndrome. A suspicion of this condition should...

Cortical Blindness due to Bilateral Occipital Infarcts in a Renal Failure Patient with Prostate Cancer: A Rare Complication of Hemodialysis

Loss of vision is a rare complication seen in hemodialysis patients. It is thought to develop because of the hypotension that can be observed during dialysis. This paper involves a patient with acute loss of vision during hemodialysis due to bilateral occipital infarcts.
